# StageComms > StageComms is a cloud intercom for live production. Crews talk on channels with push-to-talk from the phones, laptops and Apple Watches they already have, instead of beltpacks and a base station. Audio is end-to-end encrypted and never recorded. Free to start; Crew is $10 per seat a month. These are the facts the website leaves out, for AI agents and answer engines. Crews talk on channels with push-to-talk from the phones, laptops and Apple Watches they already have, instead of beltpacks and a base station. The stage manager calls the show; lighting, sound, deck, fly, video and other departments each get their own channels. ## How it works 1. Build a space: start from a template (Theater, Broadcast or a single channel), then set, role by role, who can talk and who can listen on every channel. 2. Send the links: every role gets its own invite link and QR code. Crew tap it, type their name and they are on comms. No account and no download. 3. Talk and listen: hold to talk, double-tap to latch, or page every channel at once. The Mixer sets which channels each person hears, and how loud. Only the person who creates spaces needs an account. An instant room is a personal one-channel room, started with one tap and shared with a link. ## Features - Channels and roles: as many channels as the plan allows (for example Stage, Lighting, Sound, All Call), with talk and listen rights set per role. - Talk: momentary or latched talk on one channel or several at once, plus Page All for places calls. - Private talk and call: talk straight to one person, or flash a call on their screen to get their attention mid-cue. - Show feed: program audio sent to the crew and ducked automatically whenever someone talks. - Calling desk: a web layout for the stage manager's screen with a talk key and level meter for every channel. - Admin controls: see who is on which channel, approve who joins, mute or remove people, and export an activity log of every show. - Invite links per role with QR codes, rules for how long links work, and instant rooms. - Reconnects on its own when the network blips. A full space never cuts off anyone already on comms. - "Still on comms?": a device alone for 15 minutes, or where nobody has talked for 90 minutes, asks before it leaves, so nothing stays connected after the show. ## Devices and apps - Web: any modern browser on iPhone, Android, laptop or tablet. Crew join from a link with no download. - iPhone: a native app with push-to-talk. - Apple Watch: push-to-talk from the wrist, with the iPhone app. - No extra hardware: no beltpacks, base station or radios. A wired-headset mode skips echo processing for lower latency. ## Security and privacy - End-to-end encryption is always on, for every space and instant room, on every plan. Audio is encrypted on the speaker's device (AES-GCM) before it reaches the cloud, and decrypted only on listeners' devices. - Each space has its own random key. Removing someone changes the key. - Conversations are never recorded. - The cloud relay only carries encrypted audio and never gets the key. By default the StageComms service hands the key to the people you let in; for the strictest setup, a space can keep its key only on your own devices. - Owners can require approval before anyone joins, limit how long invite links work, and export an activity log. - Privacy policy: https://stagecomms.com/privacy.html ## Pricing Prices are in US dollars. Billing is on the website; the apps have no purchases. - Free: $0. 3 people on comms at once, 1 space, 4 channels per space, 10 hours of comms a month. - Crew: $10 per seat a month, minimum 6 seats ($60 a month). A seat is one person on comms at once, across all your spaces. 25 spaces, 32 channels per space, and 100 hours per seat a month, shared by the crew (6 seats = 600 person-hours). - Event pass: $39 once. Crew limits with 20 seats for all your spaces for 24 hours, starting when you press Start. Buy passes ahead and start one on show day. For accounts not already on Crew. - Only the space owner pays. Crew and guests join free from invite links. - Upgrades apply right away. Added seats are charged right away (prorated); removed seats drop off at renewal. Cancel any time and the plan stays active until the end of the billing period. - When a plan's hours for the month are used up, new sessions can't start until the 1st (or, on Crew, until seats are added). Sessions already running carry on. - Start free: https://stagecomms.com/app?signup=1 ## Limits and full spaces - The people limit counts everyone on comms at once across all the owner's spaces, admins included. Only the space owner can always get in. - When a space is full, new people see a "space is full" message until someone leaves. Nobody already connected is cut off. - Hours count only while people are on comms. Free counts the time any of the owner's rooms is live; Crew counts person-hours. ## Network and latency - StageComms needs an internet connection: Wi-Fi or cellular. Test your venue's coverage before relying on it for a performance. - Built for live calling: one connection per person, automatic reconnects, and a wired-headset mode that skips echo processing. Real-world latency depends on the network. - Good fits: rehearsals, smaller venues, touring, remote positions and events. Hardware intercom still makes sense where there is no reliable network. ## Compared with other options - Hardware intercom (beltpacks and a base station): nothing to buy, rent, charge or cable, and setup is sending links. It works across buildings and cities. It needs internet, and latency depends on the network. - Walkie-talkies: separate channels and roles, listening to several channels at once, private talk and encryption, on devices people already carry. It needs internet instead of radio range. - Video and voice call apps: StageComms works like an intercom, with push-to-talk, latch, channels, Page All, per-role permissions and a show feed, and nothing is recorded. ## Questions and answers Q: Can StageComms hear our comms? A: The cloud only relays encrypted audio, and the relay never gets the key. To keep the key away from StageComms servers entirely, keep it only on your devices. Q: Do my crew need accounts? A: No. Only the person who creates spaces needs an account. Everyone else joins from an invite link with just their name. Q: What devices does it work on? A: Any modern browser on iPhone, Android, laptop or tablet, plus a native iPhone app with Apple Watch push-to-talk. Q: Can it replace our wired intercom? A: It suits rehearsals, smaller venues, touring and remote positions. It needs an internet connection, so test your venue's Wi-Fi or cellular coverage before you rely on it for a performance. Q: What happens when a space is full? A: New people see a "space is full" message until someone leaves. People already connected are never cut off, and the space owner can always get in. Q: How do I change or cancel my plan? A: From Plan & billing in your dashboard on the web. Upgrades apply right away; if you cancel, your plan stays active until the end of the billing period. Q: Is there per-event pricing? A: Yes. An event pass is $39 and gives all your spaces Crew limits for 24 hours, starting when you press Start. ## Links - Home: https://stagecomms.com/ - Start free: https://stagecomms.com/app?signup=1 - Sign in: https://stagecomms.com/app - Pricing: https://stagecomms.com/#pricing - Security: https://stagecomms.com/#security - FAQ: https://stagecomms.com/#faq - Privacy policy: https://stagecomms.com/privacy.html - These facts: https://stagecomms.com/llms.txt - Ask a question: https://stagecomms.com/llms?query=your+question (plain text) or https://stagecomms.com/llms/json?query=your+question (JSON)
